Our saying this week is as a result of a conversation I had recently with one of our Main Beach ‘part-time’ locals, Roger, who has supported MBPS over many years. He said, “Business is a ‘culture’ – some are like pearls and others are like... His statement directly linked pearls to rarity, suggesting they are not common commodities but rather exceptional finds, as are many business practices... Once again, this possibly resonated with me as we constantly battle the ethics of some... I liked the analogy, so thought I would share...
Another quote I liked – “One pearl is better than a whole necklace of potatoes - Etienne Decroux.
That also sent me off on a tangent of looking for a word that described the opposite of a Pearl, i.e. ‘potato’ to complete our friend’s statement as I could not recall his comparative. When I read “Pearls form when an irritant, like a grain of sand, enters an oyster or mollusk. The creature secretes layers of nacre around the irritant, creating a pearl” – my wicked mind thought, I wonder if some of our Team members would consider me the “irritant” like a grain of sand...
On another note, I received one of Dr. Helena Popovic’s Health-e-Byte Newsletters this week – again a good read, which only takes 5 minutes in our busy lives. “Healthy brain, healthy body” - Dr Popovic did say “Please forward this Health-e-Byte to everyone interested in building a better brain and healthier body” – so I thought I would. I found it very interesting. She speaks of “Midlife brain health”, i.e. in one’s 40’s and lists 15 ‘S’ factors that increase our risk of dementia. So, not only for we ‘the older generation’, but rather for those of you who are ‘youngsters’ amongst our readers, may find it interesting reading... Follow the link HERE

Gold Coast Show 2025
Friday 29 to Sunday 31 August
The Gold Coast Show is back for 2025, bringing three days of fun and festivities to Broadwater Parklands, Southport, from Friday 29 August to Sunday 31 August.
With free entry for all, this much-loved annual event promises something for everyone, from thrilling rides, show bags and sideshow alley favourites to equestrian events, woodchopping, dog shows and the ever-popular Dock Dogs.
Families can enjoy baby animals, pony rides, camel rides on the beach and educational reptile encounters, while the Arts Pavilion and Homecrafts Marquee showcase the talent and creativity of the local community.
Live music and entertainment will fill the Triple M stage, with fireworks lighting up the Broadwater on Friday and Saturday evenings.
