How much ‘goodwill’ is there in today’s society? Does that sound like an ‘older’ person speaking? It is – it is my thought for the week...
I have these random thoughts at times – as many of you who read our Newsletters will know... This week ‘goodwill’ has been on my mind – not only in the sense of “goodwill” in business, however, in general. Is goodwill even spoken of, or understood in today’s society... I never hear the word used, other than perhaps as a value added to a ‘business transaction’, i.e. an intangible asset in the sale of a business. However, when we ‘grew up’ goodwill was part of the ‘fabric’ of living, it was genuinely caring, kindness, generosity, lending a helping hand when the opportunity arose...
My friend “Google” describes goodwill as – “Goodwill is an intangible asset. But for many corporations, it is by far their most valuable asset. Integrity is the father of goodwill. Reputation is it's mother.”
The philosophy of goodwill, again according to my friend ‘Google – “Goodwill refers to the moral motivation or intention to do what is right, regardless of the consequences…”
So, then I asked - “is it sufficient to be kind and not have goodwill?” - “No, it is not sufficient to simply be kind without also having goodwill. While kindness is a positive trait, goodwill is a deeper attitude that encompasses a genuine desire for the well-being of others and a willingness to act in their best interests. Kindness can be a superficial act, while goodwill implies a more profound and consistent positive regard.”
As I wrote this, I answered my own question – yes, goodwill still exists and is possibly one of the hidden attractions of this small Village of ours - ‘Main Beach’, where whilst the word is not spoken ‘goodwill’ has been prevalent... How lucky are we!
We are fortunate to have the opportunity to present 2 New Listings to our clients this week, both of which are being offered pre going out to the broader market. I have not spoken of ‘diversity’ for a little while, so perhaps I am permitted to say – they are very diverse...
