One of the most difficult things to give away is Kindness; it usually comes back to you…
Our saying this week comes from the book “14,000 Quips & Quotes”. The book was gifted to us this week by our lovely friends and ‘part time’ locals, “R & C”, who have been following us through our Newsletter for some years and could see the value of the wonderful book in saving me time - researching for our sayings. It was a lovely act of kindness and thoughtfulness, for which we are very grateful.
Then last evening I went to a Quota meeting and I bought a ‘bumper sticker’ as part of the fund raising – it reads “Remember – It costs nothing to be nice”… That seemed to so aptly fit into our philosophy – I could not resist but to share. Quota International is a non-profit organization empowering women, children, the deaf and hard-of-hearing, and people with speech difficulties in local communities around the world. I joined last year in the hope of being of some assistance to the cause. So far, they have been more assistance to me – I must leave the office by 6 pm at least once a month…
On the property scene, you might like to read the article written by our local Economist, Clifford Bennett, immediately after the Federal Election, which he kindly shared with us. It speaks very positively on the property market and it was our intention to highlight it to you a few weeks ago. We have linked the article through our Blog section below. It is a good read!
At MBPS this week, we have another New listing, a beautifully renovated 2 bedroom apartment located in the sought after, residential only building, Park Lane, listed at $799,000. We will take it to the market next week, however, in the meantime, it is available for private inspection, so please call for further information.

Also Featured is Apartment 1/35 Beaker Street, which was released to our database a couple of weeks ago and has also gone out to market this week at $399,000. Vinnies CEO Sleepout
This coming week, on June 20th, Vinnies CEO Sleepout will raise funds and bring awareness to the plight of around 1700 homeless Gold Coasters each night. Some of you may recall that Wendy and I took part in the sleep out a couple of years ago (pictured here…). Although I am unable to participate again this year (new hips) you may wish to help this worthy cause by providing a donation, however, large or small, through the Sleepout Ambassador and fellow Main Beacher, Colin Wheeler. Vinnies have raised $1.4 million over the last 3 years and I am comfortable in the fact that ALL of the funds are spent directly here on the Coast by Vinnies in their admirable quest to give a ‘hand up, not a hand out’! Viva Surfers Paradise
The Viva Surfers Paradise event is back In 2019! The even is being held between the 12th and 21st June. VIVA welcomes John Blunt performing as Freddie Mercury in The Killer Queen Experience, Greg Andrew in the Elton John Experience, The Beatlegs as The Ultimate Beatles Tribute and Mark Andrew in his genre-defying Dead-Set Legends Show.
The twinkle in VIVA’s eye is Elvis Presley, who will be embodied by international Elvis Tribute Artist guests, Diogo Lightand David Lee. Australia’s very own Brody Finlay, the reigning VIVA Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest winner and Parkes Elvis Festival winner 2019, also joins us for one very special performance.
VIVA hosts preliminary rounds for the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest, held annually in Memphis, United States. VIVA has invited 20 high-calibre contestants to compete over two days in a rigorous contest. The winner will travel to Memphis for Elvis Week 2019 to compete in the semi-final round. Breaking News on the Gold Coast…
Gold Coast motorists will see their commute along one of the city’s busiest stretches of road cut from 35 minutes to just eight minutes under plans to upgrade Southport’s Sundale Bridge.
Mayor Tom Tate this week unveiled plans for the $34 million upgrade, which will begin next month.
An extra lane will be added to the bridge while the intersection with Waterways Drive will be upgraded. The funds will be confirmed in Gold Coast City Council budget, with the work set to take two years.
Cr Tate said it would improve the traffic flow along the busy arterial road. “As well as the fifth lane on the Sundale Bridge the project will involve six-laning of the Gold Coast Highway by demolishing the old pedestrian path on the bridge and adding a third southbound lane on the Gold Coast Highway from Waterways Drive to Tedder Avenue,” he said.
“By the time the works are complete, we anticipate travel time between Southport and the Spit being reduced to eight minutes.”
A signalised pedestrian crossing will also be created at Macarthur Parade adjacent near the Southport Yacht Club.
